From my retail experience, I know that stuff put in writing gets more action. Corporations don't like a paper trail. Write a letter detailing your experience and what you'd like to see happen as a resolution.

Hmmm...I've never actually read this book before so this is fun. I'll do my best not to jump ahead and just read it with all of you.
1. Is Farmer Jones a sympathetic character?
If we go by Major's view of things, Jones is a tyrant. Yet, Jones is likely just doing what he's always done and what he was raised to do. Jones is a farmer and a farmer's main concern is production. And so, he does what he needs to do to keep the production going.
2. Does the boar represent the animal abuses by Man accurately? If not, how not?
Ahhh...there's the rub. What is accurate? Major sees things through his own agenda. He tells events in a way that supports his ideals, his desire to snuff out man and have a nation of united beasts. From his standpoint, what he is saying is accurate. It is true for him. Yet it is true only because it is his perspective and it works for him.
I don't know what the rest of the story will contain but I can see the possibility of one major theme as "What is truth?" Are the stories we tell true? Is anything true? Or is it all just perception?
I read something recently that spoke of us all just having "stories within stories." I have my story within the story of my parent's story, within the story of their parent's story and so on. Major has his story within the context of Jones' story and so on it goes. Yet they're all just stories. What is truth? What is real?
I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

rebel8, I wish I could come visit you but I'm flying down to Moncton and won't have access to a car to do any side trips. I may do a road trip in the summer and maybe I can see you then. Hugs to you and the hubby!

Congratulations Inquiry Man! It takes great courage to do what you've done and be true to yourself. I'm so happy that the mother of your children is so supportive. Thank you for sharing your story and all the best to you. Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

Ok, so how big of a deal is it when a jw tells you this:
by Check_Your_Premises in"i just don't feel like being a witness anymore".
naturally i was intrigued.. she assured me she still believes it is the truth.
she just isn't happy.

In my experience, when a witness says that they don't feel like being a witness anymore it's just that they're tired and looking for support to keep going in the religion. I had a number of friends who were more than tired of being a jw but in the end, weren't interested in leaving. Once I questionned the religion in any way, their defences went up and I got the "It may have problems but it's still the truth" line. They may like to rant about the problems but they will defend their "mother" to the death. Sadly, they may have to.
I hope your friend is different. It's possible. I haven't seen it though.

They're Making The Elderly Feel Guilty If They Don't Phone Witness
by minimus inall the assemblies are pushing older ones to pick up the phone and preach.
my mom told me that she heard on the tape (she can't make conventions due to illness) that an 82 year old sister was on the platform because she was a phone preacher.
poor things probably can't hear, are screaming and who's going to slam the phone on a old man or woman??

We did a lot of phone witnessing in my last congregation. In fact, the elders had to encourage us to get out in the door to door work more.
One of the main reasons for doing phone witnessing is to access those apartment buildings that the witnesses are not allowed into. Generally speaking, they don't call homes that can be accesed in the door to door work.
I hated phone work. I hate the phone. And I didn't like not seeing who I was talking to. At the doors, at least I could gage their response.
You'd be surprised though how successful it was. Most of the magazine placements and return visits were from phone work. There were even many bible studies conducted over the phone. Yet the congregation I was in was one of the best for field service results in the district. So it may not be a reflection of the whole.

It's funny this should come up today. I was just remembering yesterday the opportunities I missed because my Mom decided not to have me tested for the gifted program when I was a kid. I wasn't even asked about it. She just decided for me because she didn't want me stigmatized as a gifted learner. She told my teachers just to give me more work to do to keep me challenged.
I really wish she'd had me tested. I think the challenges of the gifted program would've been healthy for me. I was a well-liked brainy kid and I don't think it would've been an issue. I think that if your daughter has the support of her peers and others around her, she'll soar in this program.
